Snow!

Tuesday was the first real snow in Delaware this winter. That statement needs further clarification on several points:

1. Real snow = the snow stayed on the ground for more than an hour. Acutal accumulation was around 1 inch.

2. in Delaware = it doesnt not really snow in Delaware. Instead, the winter mocks us by sending a light dusting and then freezing rain. Snow in Delaware is in fact more rare than it was in Chestertown at college. And that is a sad thing.

All that being said, it was Emma's first "real" snow, and so I had to put her in her little snow suit and get a picture! She was wide awake until we stepped outside; then her eyes snapped shut.

Kiss

I finished (well started and finished) a really great book this weekend, even with all of our sickliness: Kiss (subtitled She steals more than your heart).

Ted Dekker is one of my favorite authors, and I reserved his newest book at the library about 3 months before it was released. This was a great book! (Granted, I almost always think that about his books) Many of his books are woven together in complex ways that make them confusing sometimes, but this was a stand-alone mystery novel, and I highly recommend it.

Now I'm left waiting until September for his next book to be released!

The Weekend and Walmart

Well this weekend was not exactly what we had planned. Martin ended up coming down with a really nasty cold sometime between Friday and Saturday, complete with a mild fever. And Emma developed her first (and rather nasty as well) diaper rash, so she fussed a lot without much relief. We were hoping to make it to church with her for the first time on Sunday, but with the circumstances as they were that was pretty much impossible.

Despite the rough few days we are doing much better. Martin's paternity leave is up, and so he is back to work today, but feeling better. Even though Emma had a rough few days, she continued to sleep well, especially last night - which is probably the only way I was able to make it taking care of a newborn and a sick husband! We had visits from my mom and dad and Martin's mom yesterday, and they made us dinner.

Today me, Mom, and Emma went to Walmart! We braved the 20 degree temperatures and got Emma all set in the car right after she ate this morning. We were able to have almost 2 hours out, and she slept peacefully the whole time! She was so good that we stayed at Walmart for lunch at the McDonalds. What a sweet little munchkin we have!

First doctor's visit

Today was Emma's first time out since we came home from the hospital. We had her one week check-up this afternoon and she is doing great! She has gained back all of her birth weight and then some - she now weighs 7 pounds 3 oz!! She did so well that we decided to take a trip to the post office too and pick up our mail.

Also, Becca did a "photo shoot" last week with Emma, and she just slept and looked cute the whole time!

Its a litle blurry, but here's a cute face from yesterday:

The day after the due date

And no baby yet....

I go back to the doctor on Wednesday, so we'll see if there's any news then. Right now though, the plan is to go into the hospital Sunday night and be induced Monday.

So now we just have more time to pray for our baby while we wait for her to be born!

Pizza Johns!

This week we made the first of Martin's Pizza John's pizzas for dinner. He was hilarious to watch because of how EXCITED he was while it was in the oven. This picture is of the Pizza John's happy dance after putting the pizza in the oven:
And then he couldn't wait for it to come out, so we turned on the oven light so that he could check to see if the pepperoni curled up and formed a little pool of grease just like it does at the real Pizza John's. The verdict: yes it does! (to Martin's great delight)

We have 4 more pizzas left, so perhaps there will be more pictures as we enjoy the symphony of flavors that is Pizza Johns! :-)

Christmas wrap-up

We had a wonderful Christmas! Our families came to spend Christmas with us on various days and so we ended up having Christmas celebrations for over a week. It was really great for me especially to not have to do a lot of traveling. The only place we ended up going was to Bel Air, MD to visit with Martin's family the day after Christmas. It had been a long time since we'd been with all of them, so that was really fun. And Martin got what I would call his favorite (or at least most exciting) gift: Pizza John's pizza...his ultimate favorite pizza!
